President Muhammadu Buhari will host his first Presidential Media Chat tomorrow, Wednesday, December 30, 2015.

In the course of the programme, which will be broadcast live on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), President Buhari will answer questions from a panel of journalists on a broad range of current national issues.
The Presidential Media Chat will begin at 1900 hours. Other television and radio stations in the country may hook-up to NTA and FRCN to relay the programme to their viewers and listeners.

New York Times: As U.S. Focuses on ISIS and the Taliban, Al Qaeda Re-emerges

WASHINGTON — Even as the Obama administration scrambles to confront the Islamic State and resurgent Taliban, an old enemy seems to be reappearing in Afghanistan: Qaeda training camps are sprouting up there, forcing the Pentagon and American intelligence agencies to assess whether they could again become a breeding ground for attacks on the United States.

Most of the handful of camps are not as big as those that Osama bin Laden built before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. But had they re-emerged several years ago, they would have rocketed to the top of potential threats presented to President Obama in his daily intelligence briefing. Now, they are just one of many — and perhaps, American officials say, not even the most urgent on the Pentagon's list in Afghanistan.

Leicester City owners decided to surprise fans with free beer before their clash with Man City tonight at the King Power Stadium. The club has been the surprise package this season, staying top of the table and have a genuine shot of winning the title this season.

In his programme notes ahead of the match, Leicester City Fotball Club vice chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: 'There has been so many highlights from 2015 - the amazing escape last season, the fantastic start to this one, club records broken, Premier League records broken and moments that will live with us all for a long time. You have been a huge part of it and Leicester City heads into 2016 in better shape than it has ever been. PPPRA Announces New Pump Price For Petrol

The Petroleum Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) in Nigeria has announced the implementation of the revised components of the Petroleum Pricing Template for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

In a statement by the Executive Secretary of the PPPRA, Mr Farouk Ahmed, the pump price was put at 86.50 Naira per litre, a price the agency said was in line with the prevailing market trend.

“This new price regime is with effect from January 1, 2016,” the statement read.

According to Mr Ahmed, the reversed template was approved by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

The statement said that the major components of the pricing template affected by this review were Traders Margin, Lightering Expenses, Nigeria Port Authority, Jetty Throughput, Storage Charges and Bridging Fund.

Other components revised include Retailers’ Transporters and Dealers Margins.

As contained in the breakdown, the Ex-depot price of PMS shall be 77 Naira per litre while the pump price will be 86.50 Naira per litre.

The new price is a reduction of 50 Kobo from the old price of 87 Naira.

It is the second time that the government will be reducing the price of petrol since the price of crude oil dropped.

The PPPRA also advised all marketers to adhere strictly to the approved Ex-depot and pump prices, as it would, in conjunction with relevant government agencies, enforce compliance.

The oil-rich nation is currently experiencing fuel scarcity, a situation that the government said would soon come to an end, as some of the nation’s refineries have started production.

Somali Journalist and the general secretary of National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSO) Omar Faruk Osman narrowly survived assassination attempt in Mogadishu drive-by-shooting today Tuesday, December 29. According to media reports, Faruk was entering (NUSO) office at Teleh area in Mogadishu when unknown gunmen in a minivan blocked his way and sprayed bullets into his car.

At least three people--a bodyguard and two pedestrians were wounded in the attack.

The assassination attempt comes a day after Faruk denounced a controversial media law passed by the Somali parliament on Monday. The media law drawn by the government's ministry of information targeted a section of the press which the (NUSO) boss believes is a threat to media freedom in Somalia and called on the Somali president not to sign the controversial bill.

Togolese Forward Emmanuel Adebayor who is still collecting £100,000 per week salary from Tottenham F.C despite not kicking a ball, took to instagram to show off his impressive collection of 12 watches worth about £450,000. Posting the picture on Instagram, he wrote: 'SEA, haters are gonna hate. Imma do me no matter what. The SEA collection by @josephfrostoflondon.'

The watches put by the star player in a storage box, show different times because many are automatic movement time pieces meaning they require the owner to wear them to wind them up and they were suped-up by New Bond Street jewellers, Frost of London.

The most expensive time piece owned by the former Atrsenal,Tottenham,Real Madrid and Man City striker is the Hublot Big Bang King Power Chrono Tourbillon, with a retail price of up to £100,000. His diamond-encrusted collection has a combined value of more than £450,000 with watches by Hubolt, Jacob & Co, Audemars Piguet, deLaCour, Cvstos and Snyper.

Benue Civil Servants Query 6,000 Naira Induction Fee

Some civil servants in Benue State have queried the payment of 6,000 Naira, as an induction fee in the face of months of owed salary arrears.

The complaints arose among the newly employed civil servants from 2012, particularly from the Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) absorbed into the service in 2014, but were yet to be paid their bailout funds.

The workers had participated in the three days induction course organised by the Office of the Benue State Head of Service and expressed optimism that it was a good start in the civil service.

Some of the workers, Dorathy Wergba and Agbata Thomas, decried the 6,000 Naira induction fee which they said was too high, considering that the State Government was yet to pay their outstanding salaries of two months and four months bailout sums.

A former BIRS Staff, Shadrack Ugah, also stressed that the agency was unable to pay the fees due to non-payment of salary arrears and bailout.

Giving the government’s side of the story, the Permanent Secretary in-charge of Establishment, Office of the Benue State Head of Service, Iorhii Dooga, defended the 6,000 Naira collected from the inductees.

The government official said the payment was to enable the service hold the induction programme, as the government no longer fund the course.

Reuters: Exclusive: Iraqi army needs Kurds' help to retake Mosul - Zebari

The Iraqi army will need the Kurds' help to retake Mosul, the largest city under the control of Islamic State with the planned offensive expected to be very challenging in a region home to rival religious and ethnic groups, an Iraqi minister said. Mosul, 400 km (250 miles) north of Baghdad, has been designated by the government as the next target for Iraq's armed forces after they retook the western city of Ramadi, the first major success of the U.S.-trained force that initially fled in the face of Islamic State's advance 18 months ago.

Retaking the mostly Sunni city of Mosul would be hard as the local and regional players in northern Iraq have diverging agendas. The region is a mosaic of different ethnic and religious groups lying between Turkey, Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan.

It would effectively mark the end of the caliphate proclaimed by Islamic State in adjacent Sunni areas of Iraq and Syria, Iraq's Finance Minister Hoshiyar Zebari told Reuters in an interview.

Okorocha Presents 102bn Naira 2016 Budget

Governor Rochas Okorocha State has presented a 102-billion-Naira budget proposal for the 2016 fiscal year before the Imo State House for Assembly.

The Governor made the budget presentation on Tuesday at the hallow chamber in Owerri, the capital of Imo State in southeast Nigeria.

Governor Okorocha explained that the budget, which was tagged ‘Budget of Consolidation and Continuity’, showed that 43.1 per cent of the total budget was proposed for capital expenditure while 56.9 per cent was proposed for recurrent expenditure.

He disclosed that the budget targeted 23 billion Naira from the Imo State’s share of the Federal Allocation, 17 billion Naira from Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and 148 billion Naira from Excess Crude Oil among others.

The former presidential candidate hinted that the budget was anchored on free and qualitative education from primary to tertiary level, rapid industrialisation, efficient healthcare delivery, agricultural development.

He added that the budget would also concentrate on infrastructure development and substantial provision, saying it would be channelled towards the completion of all ongoing projects while new projects of high priority would also receive attention in line with the state’s medium term expenditure framework.

Governor Okorocha maintained that the Budget performance was affected by the sharp drop in allocation from the Federation Account, which adversely affected the revenue profile of Imo State during the period, stressing that the 2016 budget was 39 billion Naira lesser than that of 2015.

The youngsters coached by Sergi Milà overcome Valencia 4-3 in a scintillating final The victory comes after a 2-0 semi-final win also on Tuesday over Villarreal

The FC Barcelona U14B side are the champions of the LaLiga Promises tournament which took place in Miami, USA after a 2-0 win over Villarreal in the semi-final and a spectacular 4-3 victory over Valencia in the final. Moriba Kourouma was the star of the show with two goals in each match to help Sergi Milà's team to success in the tournament which was played over three days in Florida.

The final against Valencia was a thrilling affair with Barça edging it in a seven goal thriller. Moriba Kourouma, fresh from his brace in the semi-final against Villarreal, opened the scoring. His second was an example of pure power - a shot from outside the box that was always destined for the back of the net. Valencia, to their credit, never gave up and Cristian Valera's goal guaranteed emotion until the final minutes. However, Barça held on for the win and Sergi Milà's side return with the trophy after victory in the prestigious youth football tournament.
